Excellent description for those of us without psychological training. I have read a lot about how torture has been used over hundreds of years; and understood the "example" of the victim to control others. Does unrelenting fear exacerbate the process I wonder? Thank you!
Why is the "conversion" of any given individual so important to totalitarians? Why waste all that time and other resources when you could just "disappear" them and be done with it? I can think of reasons but all seem to originate in weakness rather than strength.
